Pediatric Dentist in Woodbridge

Your children should have the best dental treatment from the beginning. Dixwell Dental's skilled dentists will look after your children's oral health and prepare them for a lifetime of strong and healthy teeth.

Your First Visit

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that your child have a dentist by the age of one year. Proper routine dental care and oral hygiene treatments from a young age increase healthy habits prevent health issues in the future.

We will be excited to welcome you and your child on your first visit! The dentist's office can feel foreign or scary; during our first visit, your child will be introduced to our dental experts and given an opportunity to tour the clinic and get more comfortable. We encourage you to accompany your child throughout their dental appointment. X-rays are taken as needed to establish your child's current dental condition. Our team will discuss our results and recommendations after the exam.

Dental Cleanings + Routine Check-ups

The health of your child's teeth and mouth is crucial to their overall health. While regular brushing and flossing at home is necessary to keep your child's smile looking its best, a comprehensive exam and bi-yearly cleaning at the dentist keeps your child healthy and encourages good dental habits.

Regular dental checkups and cleanings also let your family get more accustomed to our staff, so if they need a cavity filled or other procedure in the future, it might not feel as scary.

Good dental hygiene tips:

  • Brush twice a day

  • Floss after brushing your teeth

  • Use ADA approved mouthwash

Fluoride

Fluoride works to prevent cavities and tooth decay by coating teeth and preventing plaque from adhering to the tooth's surface and hardening. It's recommended to include this treatment in your yearly checkup until age 16.

A fluoride treatment takes only a few minutes in the dentist's office. Patients may be urged to refrain from rinsing, eating, or drinking for at least 30 minutes after the treatment to allow the fluoride to penetrate the teeth. Fluoride treatments may be required every three, six, or twelve months, depending on your child's oral health or the doctor's recommendation.

Mouthguards

Mouthguards protect the teeth and gums from harm. The American Dental Association recommends wearing a mouthguard if your child participates in basketball, boxing, hockey, football, gymnastics, or other sports that may result in contact with your teeth. Properly fit mouthguards are designed to be safe and comfortable.

N2O (Nitrogen Oxide)

The most common treatment for relieving mild to moderate anxiety in children is nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. It is a practical approach to ease anxiety when administered using a tiny mask that fits over your child's nose. This treatment can help alleviate anxiety while still allowing your child to communicate with the doctor and our team members.
